Ownership vs. a service
The one-time purchase sells ownership: Advanced Planning is yours to use forever, subscribed or not, service alive or gone. Synchronization and Advanced Synchronization sell a continuous service: hosting, synchronization, storage and backups — and, as a convenience, the local features for as long as the subscription runs.
What is never for sale
These are product-level decisions, not marketing copy — the project's own direction document states them this way:
Never a paid feature: plan correctness and equipment protection — horizon mask, minimum altitude, lunar separation, mount-safety restrictions — and basic offline use. Locking any of these would only produce frustration, not revenue.
Sky imagery is never sold, including if it is one day served through a future hosted-portal mirror. All offline sky-pack tiers (Essential, Comfort, High quality) are free; the tier you pick is a storage preference, not a purchase.
Paid candidates are named just as plainly: advanced mosaics and framing, multi-night planning, the light-pollution map and detailed forecasts, and — as a future proof-of-concept — a plate-solving companion app. Multi-device synchronization, and the version history it depends on, is a hosted-service subscription, not an app option; a self-hosted portal keeps everything.
If a subscription ends
Locally downloaded data stays available. Hosted data enters a 90-day read-only/export period, then a 12-month archive with export on request; nothing is deleted without warning e-mails first. A downgrade never silently deletes your existing files or history — only new uploads beyond the lower plan's limits are paused.
